چکیده

We prove that every planar graph on n vertices is contained in a chordal graph with at most cn log n edges for some absolute constant c and this is best possible to within a constant factor.

Chordal Completions of Planar Graphs

A graph is said to be chordal if every cycle with at least four vertices always contains a chord. (A chordal graph is sometimes called a triangulated graph in the literature. For graph-theoretical terminology, the reader is referred to [4].) A chordal completion of a graph G is a chordal graph with the same vertex set as G which contains all edges of G. The problem of interest is to find for a ...

Strongly Chordal and Chordal Bipartite Graphs Are Sandwich Monotone

A graph class is sandwich monotone if, for every pair of its graphs G1 = (V,E1) and G2 = (V,E2) with E1 ⊂ E2, there is an ordering e1, . . . , ek of the edges in E2 \E1 such that G = (V,E1 ∪ {e1, . . . , ei}) belongs to the class for every i between 1 and k. In this paper we show that strongly chordal graphs and chordal bipartite graphs are sandwich monotone, answering an open question by Bakon...

Complement of Special Chordal Graphs and Vertex Decomposability

In this paper, we introduce a subclass of chordal graphs which contains $d$-trees and show that their complement are vertex decomposable and so is shellable and sequentially Cohen-Macaulay.

On Listing, Sampling, and Counting the Chordal Graphs with Edge Constraints

We discuss the problems to list, sample, and count the chordal graphs with edge constraints. The edge constraints are given as a pair of graphs one of which contains the other and one of which is chordal, and the objects we look at are the chordal graphs contained in one and containing the other. This setting is a natural generalization of chordal completions and deletions. For the listing prob...

New representation results for planar graphs

A universal representation theorem is derived that shows any graph is the intersection graph of one chordal graph, a number of co-bipartite graphs, and one unit interval graph. Central to the the result is the notion of the clique cover width which is a generalization of the bandwidth parameter. Specifically, we show that any planar graph is the intersection graph of one chordal graph, four co-...
